Siemens Solid Edge 2024: Streamlining product development and collaboration for industrial manufacturing

Industrial manufacturing firm Siemens has launched Solid Edge 2024 software as a part of its Siemens Xcelerator portfolio.

Introducing a range of features and improvements, this software is designed to enhance the user experience and streamline the product development process. With a focus on performance, collaboration, and innovation, this latest version offers practical tools to assist designers and engineers without excessive self-promotion, says the company.

“Siemens really listens to their customers, and you can tell with Solid Edge 2024. It is full of improvements. Some are small, like new dimensioning standards and symbols, but they make a big difference. The new MBD and PMI features get us closer to going completely paperless. We spend up to 15% of our time printing and organizing drawings, and Solid Edge 2024 could help us eliminate that completely,” said Daniel Schulz from KAESER.

AI-powered design and seamless collaboration

Solid Edge 2024 enhances visualization, enabling smooth interaction with complex assemblies. Users can pan, zoom, and rotate designs up to nine times faster, creating a more immersive experience with Immersive View Styles. Solid Edge SaaS subscriptions, now with Teamcenter Share, facilitate seamless collaboration from anywhere on any device, simplifying communication to advance projects efficiently.

“With larger and larger assemblies, you wait longer and longer for assemblies to load, rotate and zoom, everything gets slower with size. But Solid Edge 2024 makes it much faster, and that’s going to have a huge impact for our designers, potentially increasing productivity by as much as 30 percent. Solid Edge’s Part Finder makes Solid Edge more intuitive to use, especially for newer users. Solid Edge 2024 is a great release for the everyday user. Small improvements really improve the day-to-day user experience,” said John Matthews from Hatch.

In Solid Edge 2024, Artificial Intelligence (AI) enhances design efficiency. AI predicts valid part alternatives, reducing manual work, while the user interface adapts to user behavior, providing relevant commands. AI capabilities in synchronous technology maintain design plans in real-time, even with models from other systems. Additionally, generative design adds machine intelligence, automatically computing geometric solutions within defined constraints, streamlining the design process.

The Solid Edge Design Configurator Connect enables customers to configure products in real-time, simplifying the design process. It enables quick placement of intelligent datasets, aided by automation and customizable templates that enhance dimensioning and annotations for improved communication with manufacturing teams.

Improved product development capabilities

In Solid Edge 2024, enhancements to Model-Based Definition (MBD) improve the communication of design plans for manufacturing. Automated assistance ensures consistent modeling parameters. Publishing tools are enhanced for easy customization. Solid Edge CAM Pro introduces AI Assisted Operation Editing, guiding users during the editing process. Cloud Connect Tool Library streamlines tool management and 3D Adaptive Roughing improves material removal efficiency. Moreover, Value-based licensing provides cost-effective access to various advanced tools, shareable across product development teams, says the company.

Solid Edge Simulation and Simcenter FLOEFD for Solid Edge enhance simulation performance via meshing, structural analyses, and interoperability improvements. Solid Edge 2024 simplifies handling design data from various sources with enhancements in CAD Direct, Data Translation, and Migration, ensuring compatibility with multiple file formats. Improved interoperability with Siemens Xcelerator portfolio products like NX, Teamcenter, and Teamcenter Share promotes consistency and better platform integration.

Enhanced manufacturing software

Metal 3D printing company Meltio released Meltio Space software to boost the adoption of its wire-laser metal robot 3D printing solutions. The software offers a user-friendly interface for generating toolpaths, supporting various workpiece positions, kinematics simulation, and robot arms compatibility with ABB, Kuka, Fanuc, and Yaskawa. Meltio aims to simplify 3D printing and make it accessible to users of all levels.

Engineering software developer nTop released a significant update to its flagship product, nTop 4, aimed at addressing challenges in additive manufacturing (AM). AM allows the creation of complex, high-performance parts, but often leads to design and manufacturing bottlenecks. According to the company, engineers tend to struggle in harnessing AM’s advantages due to the time and effort involved. Outdated design file formats can further complicate the 3D printing process. Consequently, this software update aims to streamline and enhance the AM design and manufacturing process.
